    Sewing Tools and Its Function

    1. Needle threader is used to make threading a sewing needle fast and easy. The wire easily passes through the eye of a needle, opens allowing a large opening for the thread and is then pulled back through the eye of the needle.

    2. Seam ripper is used to remove unwanted stitches. The fine tip of a seam ripper allows you to pick out single threads, decreasing the likelihood of cutting the fabric that the stitches are attached too.

3.Bent-handle dressmaker shears are used for the cutting out of patterns and sewing projects. Sharp shears are the key to preventing hand fatigue and accurate cutting along pattern lines.

    4. Press cloth is essential to prevent scorching your fabric when you are applying more heat than you would if you were just ironing out wrinkles. They are available in different weights. A see-through press cloth allows you to see the pressing task through the press cloth. If you do not have one, a piece of muslin will do but it is an item worth adding to your sewing tools.

    5. Hams and sleeve rolls are wonderful for pressing curves and seams that are in a tube area without creasing another area of the garment. Similar results can be achieved with a tightly rolled towel. It is worth saving up for a pressing ham and sleeve roll if you will be sewing clothing, baby clothes or doll clothes.

Parts of Sewing Machine and its Function

1.The stitch selector for choosing the type of stitch.

2.The pressor foot for holding the fabric as you sew.

3.The feed teeth for moving the fabric through as you sew.

4.The hand wheel, for manually moving the needle up and down.

5.The needle position dial to move the needle horizontally.

    1. Bobbin:
A bobbin is a spindle or cylinder, with or without flanges, on which wire, yarn, thread or film is wound. Bobbins are typically found in sewing machines, cameras, and within electronic equipment. As used in spinning, weaving, knitting, sewing, or lacemaking, the bobbin provides temporary storage for yarn and may be made of plastic, metal, bone or wood.
    2. Bodkin:
A sharp slender instrument for making holes in cloth or a blunt needle with a large eye for drawing tape or ribbon through a loop or hem.

5 Sewing Tools and Its functions

    1. Bodkin - is designed to pull an item (such as elastic, ribbon, cording or drawstring) through a casing. The blunt point, sometimes a ball point, prevents the bodkin from piercing the fabric casing, while guiding the pulled through item, through the casing.
If you do not have a bodkin a safety pin can be used to pull the item through a casing. It is just a bit more difficult to grasp and guide than a bodkin.

    2. Seam Guide - is the perfect sewing tool to be sure you have the correct seam allowance that is called for in the pattern directions.

    3. Rotary Cutting Pad - is used as a flat surface to cut fabric with rotary tools.

    4. Rotary Cutters - are used in conjunction with rotary pads and rotary rulers.

    5. Rotary Rulers - can be used alone as a measuring devise or used in conjunction with rotary mats and rotary cutters.

5 Parts of the Sewing Machines and Its functions

    1. Pressure Foot - Foot that presses down on fabric to stabilize its movement.

    2. Feed Dog - Mechanism which controls motion of the fabric.

    3. Needle Plate - Plate under pressure foot with slots to allow feed dog to reach fabric and openeiong for the needle to move up and down.

    4. Hook - Device which picks the thread off of the needle.

    5. Feed drop - Adjustment used to take the feed dog out of play for free hand work.
